Stephen Thornton heads up our Personal Injury department with an exceptional depth of knowledge and practical experience gained over years of study and practice. His experience in Medical Negligence cases includes high profile class actions and mass torts regarding product liability including: Accufix Atrial J Pacemeker leads; Myodil class action; Dalkon Shield IUD class action; and Deep Sleep Therapy at Chelmsford Private Hospital.
Stephen holds a particular interest and experience in the carriage of matters regarding Dust Diseases Litigation, (including asbestos), and has litigated numerous catastrophic matters in the Dust Diseases Tribunal of NSW.
In addition he has broad experience in the running of Motor Vehicle and Public Liability cases, Industrial Common Law, Medical Negligence, Product Liability and Professional Negligence matters including legal.
Dr Thornton is an active public speaker addressing special interest groups such as Rotary, various RSL organisations including Naval and Air Force associations, various respiratory hospital units and liaises directly with the Asbestos Foundation of Queensland.
His studies have included travel and residencies as research fellow in St Vincent’s Hospital Sydney, Max Plank Institute in Vienna; and the Institute Pasteur Paris. His languages include French and Italian .
Stephen is a Committee Member of the NSW Branch of the Lawyers Alliance and an Examiner in the Law Society of NSW Specialist Accreditation Scheme.
