With over 20 years experience Geoff has acted for both Claimants and
Defendants in the Local, District , Supreme, Federal and High Court in the areas of
personal injury, employment and industrial relations law including occupational health
& safety, prosecutions, family law and administrative law. He has also conducted matters
before the Administrative Decisions Tribunal and the Anti-Discrimination Board.
Geoff was for many years a Senior Manager at the GIO, supervising a department
of lawyers and literally thousands of claims involving Personal Injury. He was previously a member of the District Court Delay Reduction Committee and the Alternate
Dispute Resolution Committee of the NSW Law Society. Later, in private practice, his
involvement in Personal Injury Litigation has continued.
His Personal Injury practice includes acting for both plaintiff and defendant including
major claims, alternative dispute resolution, negotiation in relation to motor accident,
property, product and professional negligence claims, including complex liability and medical issues.
In addition, Geoff practices in the areas of Employment & Industrial Relations including
Occupational Health & Safety, Prosecutions, Administrative Law and Work Choices Legislation.
This includes acting as advocate for Work Cover, both applicants and respondents in unfair
dismissal, unfair contract claims, drafting management agreements for actors and performers,
as well as the pre-school nursery industries and health care providers, recovery of residual
payments, drafting employment and management contracts, anti-discrimination and administrative
law claims including as advocate before the Administrative Appeals Court.
Geoff has also conducted matters regarding Intellectual Property/Copyright Advice
and claims particularly in relation to journalists, print and television media.
Geoffrey's career has spanned teaching; Project Officer with the Drug and Alcohol Authority,
implementation and administration of the Drug & Alcohol Court Assessment Programme in the
NSW District Court; advised cabinet level Ministerial Committee comprising the NSW
Departments of Health, Corrective Services and Attorney General on the implementation of
the Federal Drug Programme; member of committees advising on drafting of the NSW Drug Misuse
and Trafficking Act 1985, supervision and training of professional staff including Probation
and Parole Officers and other service providers.
He has carried out Social Work and Drug Counselling at the Bourke Street Drug Advisory Service,
NSW Department of Health. His experience includes psychosocial assessment and therapy,
individual, group and family therapy and counselling; medical intervention, detoxification
and treatment therapies, family and public education; liaison with other service and social
intervention providers including public and private services and major hospitals. As a Probation
and Parole Officer he has participated in supervision and counselling; interview and assessment
of victims and offenders, court appearances and as an adviser to the Parole Board and Life
Sentence Board and multi-disciplinary committees.
Geoff also holds a Masters of Town & Country Planning from Sydney University.
